Blipfoto.com was awesome,  if it wasn’t I wouldn’t have over 2000 entries on there (getting close to 6 years without a day missed).  But once again something seems to be amiss.  There isn’t enough info around the blipfuture proposal and people are getting nervous again.  A lot of people have literally years of their lives stored in their journals.  After all,  the tagline is “Save your life”.   Births,  deaths,  marriages and everything in between.  If blip goes down then all that content could go with it.

There are a pile of options out there for people to make use of in terms of backing up their journals,  this one is just for those that don’t have the knowhow,  time, or simply just want someone else to do it for them

It’s a simple wee service to get all of your content,  and after all it is your content.

Here is an example screenshot from a backup of blipcentral’s journal to show you what the file you receive will look like (note the file has been shrunk! The text will be perfectly readable):

You don’t need a paypal account to purchase. And you won’t need any technical knowhow. Just provide your blip id, a link to your first entry, and your email in the “special instructions to seller” section and when the backup is finished you will be sent a link to a zip file containing all of your journal entries.   Every entry is combined neatly into a single file with the associated image.

I want it to be 100% clear that I am *NOT* making use of the hard work of others that has been put in to the other solutions.  This is work that I had done for my own journal which I have modified to allow me to back-up the journals of anyone that wants it done.  It’s time consuming and it’s taking me about 20mins/year/journal.  Why am I charging?  Because with a young family I have literally no free time.  If I do this then I have to not do something else.  That’s got to be worth something.  A few people used the service back in March and were more than happy with the cost/benefit ratio!

Notes:  backup does not include comments.  The backup can’t be made if your journal is marked private. If for whatever reason a backup can’t be made you will get a full refund.  Links between journal entries in the backup will not work (but will link to the entry on blip).  If you have had more than one blip removed by blipcentral (eg for photo posted on wrong day) let me know how many (approx) as it is a pain to sort).  The long edge of the images supplied is 640px.
